9-11 Show Concerns Some CBS Affilates

A powerful and moving documentary concerning the events of 9-11 is causeing concern for some CBS affiliates. The documentary hosted by Robert De Niro includes the only known footage of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. The problem which has caused trouble and forced two dozen CBS affiliates to cancel or delay broadcast of the show is the language used by the firefighters in the programme. Since the Janet Jackson incident on the Superbowl the FCC has cracked down on indecent content and raised the fine from $32,500 per incident to $325,000 per station. This programme has already aired twice without incident but affiliates are afraid of big fines now. I don’t have a problem with keeping bad language off broadcast television especially in the early hours of primetime. There is rough language in this programme but it shows bravery under intense pressure and yes the language is rough but i believe the show should be shown as is with a disclaimer of course to warn parents. The content of this show is hard to watch but it shows people coming together and risking everything to help strangers in a horrible day for America. This country is known for freedom of speech and this programme is a snapshot of America at its best overcoming a horrible day and if FCC fines stations for showing this they would be doing a great injustice to the American people.
