November 15th 2024: AMC Networks has purchased the remainder of the channel BBC America from the British Broadcasting Company. The purchase is a $42 million all cash deal which was announced during AMC’s recent earnings call.
The BBC America channel was previously a joint venture between AMC and BBC Studios the commercial arm of the public broadcaster. By purchasing the 50.1 percent from BBC Studios, AMC now has complete control over the direction of the channel.
AMC has been a parter with the BBC in the business since 2014 and will continue to maintain a commercial relationship with the BBC. The BBC America channels has become known for its programming that includes Orphan Black, Graham Norton, Luther and Planet Earth.
